Q: What is photovoltaics?
A: Photovoltaic energy is produced when sunlight is directly converted into electric energy with the use of solar cells.
The term "photovoltaic" has two parts: “photos”, a Greek word meaning light, and “voltaic”, a reference to the Italian innovator Alessandro Volta.
Q: What products offers Solarion?
A: The portfolio of Solarion includes both rigid modules that offers the frameless encapsulation between two sheets of glass for maximum mechanical stability, durability and security, as well as flexible modules without glass protection to be used in roofing materials or textiles, but also in the automotive industry or in aerospace applications.
Q: When and where can I buy products from Solarion?
A: In early 2012 we plan to launch our rigid glass-glass modules. Starting in 2013 flexible laminates will be commercially available.
The distribution is made to selected distributors and system integrators only.
Q: What are the benefits of Solarion’s solar modules?
A: The flexible CIGS thin-film solar modules from Solarion are unbreakable, lightweight and thin. Through a very cost effective manufacturing using industrial roll-to-roll processes and the product flexibility, the system cost of photovoltaic systems is significantly reduced. The use of the CIGS absorber provides a high efficiency potential and ensures an effective electrical performance.
Q: For which applications are Solarion’s modules are best suited?
A: The flexible and lightweight CIGS thin film solar modules from Solarion are particularly suited for building integrated applications, in aerospace and the automotive and textile industries but also for everyday use products, or simply to generate energy in photovoltaic power plants.
Q: What about semitransparent modules?
A: During our standard roll-to-roll processing we also can make semitransparent solar cells with no additional efforts. can also partially transparent solar cells are produced without additional effort.
Q: What does the acronym CIGS stand for?
A: CIGS stands for the elements copper, indium, gallium and selenium of which the absorber layer of the Solarion cells is made of.
Q: What are Solarion’s objectives?
Solarion’s core business is the development, manufacturing and marketing of highly efficient and yet cost-effective thin film solar cells and modules. Our goal is to achieve technological leadership in the industrial production of these cells and modules.
A: Where is the production of Solarion’s solar modules located?
Our solar modules are manufactured in Germany. So we can we ensure a high quality standard with our highly motivated and skilled team.
Q: How many employees does Solarion have?
A: Currently Solarion has 50 employees. However, the number of employees will grow in the months ahead.
